There
are a lot of methods for caring extra magazines (ammo)
and other gear for the AK47 rifle. Here are a few I
use, some pictures and quick reviews of each style
|
This is the AK47 I use the most.
There is a full write up on it here. What
AK do you guys use? I
figure three or four mags are about all I might
need in an emergency. So most of these options
are designed for just a couple of magazines to
feed this AK and a bit of first aid and basic
tools, or room for this type of gear

Surplus Mine Pouch
|
|
The first is the most simple and
my current favorite. It's a Russian mine pouch,
for their version of our claymore mine, I'm told.
It's a great pouch, with two big pockets. Very
simple, very strong. Two snaps, a strap, thats
about it

|
|
Each side has a few smaller pockets
sewn inside which I use these for a tourniquet,
gauze, gloves, light and a swiss army knife.
There's room for a larger first aid kit, or a
place to put empty mags or whatever. These bags
are just a few pieces of cloth, so they fold
up to about the size of a paperback book. I keep
one of these in my range bag, and in the truck,
and in the trunk of the car, in the boat... they
cost just a few bucks so I buy them a few at
a time.

Surplus AK47 Magazine Bag
|
|
This is an un-modified military
pouch for AK47 magazines. It was a few bucks
at a gun show. It's super strong, and another
simple one, just five slots for five magazines.
There are small pouches for oil or cleaning kits,
but a few first aid supplies can be put in them.
This bag is a one trick pony however, the dividers
in this pouch make it pretty much useless except
to hold the curved AK47 magazine. Great as a
second pouch to simply carry more ammo and mags
however.

SurplusAK47 magazine Chest Pouch
|
|
My least favorite and least useful.
This Chinese chest pouch is very much like the
Russians, however the Russian type is MUCH better
because it also holds the bayonet!! These hold
three Ak47 magazines and then have 4 smaller
pouches for ammo, magazine loaders, oil, cleaning
kits and pretty much whatever will fit in them.

|
|
One big disadvantage with these
is the difficulty in getting the the magazines
very quickly. I've modified my other cheat pouches
to allow faster acquisition of the magazines
with one hand while under stress. These are also
designed for small people, and fit very poorly
on big fat people

Modified
Military AK47 magazine Chest Pouch
|
|
This is an example of a military chest pouch
that has been modified to allow faster removal
of the magazines. Basically the top of the pouches
are cut away to allow a few fingers to grab the
AK47 magazine

|
|
|
|
This modification allows the chest pouch to
hold the magazines and offers more room for storage
and other gear

Modern
(US made) AR15 / AK47 Chest Pouch
|
|
This is an Eagle brand chest pouch
in multicam camo. This one can hold up to eight
(8) AK47 magazines and four pistol mags, a pistol,
first aid kit and still has room for more storage.
It's very heavy duty and has the most room for
gear and ammo (magazines) however it's also the
largest and heaviest
